Johnson County lots slope, and sloped lots erode. A well-built retaining wall turns an unusable grade into flat, planted, walkable space — holding soil back, stopping washouts along the drive, and creating the terraces that make a back yard actually livable instead of just steep.

Walls fail from the bottom up, so that's where we spend the money. Every wall we build starts with excavation to undisturbed soil, a compacted granular base, and a level first course, because a first course that's off by a quarter inch is off by several inches at the top. Behind the block we install drainage aggregate and a perforated drain line so hydrostatic pressure has somewhere to go — water trapped behind a wall is what pushes it over, not the soil.

Beyond walls, we build the flat surfaces that connect a property: paver and flagstone patios, front walkways, garden steps, fire pit surrounds, and seating walls. The same base preparation applies. Proper excavation depth, compacted base, screeded bedding sand, and polymeric joint sand are what keep a patio from settling into ruts and sprouting weeds after the second winter.
